Metuchen was carved out of Raritan Township on March 20, 1900, and the township it left behind now goes by the name Edison. The borough has been largely ringed by its old parent ever since, and that geography shapes how a Metuchen business gets found. Raritan Township, incorporated in 1870, had Metuchen as its largest village, so the two share a long history as well as a border.
The borough itself is small: 15,049 residents in the 2020 census on 2.84 square miles. Route 27 and County Route 531 cross at its center, Interstate 287 runs along the southern edge, and Metuchen station sits on NJ Transit’s Northeast Corridor Line with Main Street running up to it. County Routes 501, 660 and 669 also clip the borough, and the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway are a short drive away in Edison and Woodbridge. That downtown won the 2023 Great American Main Street Award, and the borough still goes by “the Brainy Borough.” The Metuchen School District runs Mildred B. Moss and Campbell elementary schools and Edgar Middle School, and Saint Francis Cathedral School serves pre-K through eighth grade.
Beyond Main Street there is a real local texture to work with: Centennial Park, the borough’s largest at 13 acres and home to its highest point, Beacon Hill; the Middlesex Greenway, a 3.5-mile trail it shares with Woodbridge; the Middlesex Avenue and Woodwild Park historic district; and the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen, in place since 1981. Smaller spots such as Woodwild Park, Tommy’s Pond and the Robinvale section add more names, and the Metuchen Public Library, Metuchen High School and St. Joseph High School are local fixtures too. A site that refers to those places reads as written by someone who knows it.
As of October 2026 the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs lists about 25 active home improvement and electrical contractor licenses with a Metuchen mailing address. That is a small pool, and the borough is ringed by a far bigger township, so a business that is actually in Metuchen has a clear local claim to make, if its site makes it.
KMC Spark builds the site, the local pages and the request form for service businesses covering Metuchen and its neighbors, and we start with a free consultation. Bring the list of towns you work in and we will tell you straight what would help most.
