What we were working with
JMD Property Innovations is a licensed, insured general contractor working out of Piscataway. Kitchens, bathrooms, basements, whole-home renovations, additions, paver patios, roofing and siding. NJ HIC Reg. #13VH14108200. Twenty-three Google reviews, averaging a straight 5.0.
Most of that work arrives through word of mouth, which is the best kind of lead there is. The gap was in what happens immediately after: a referral hears the name, looks it up, and has to work out whether JMD does her kind of job and covers her town before she is willing to call. That is the job the new site had to do, and it is the reason every decision below went the way it did.
What we built
Eight sections, each doing a specific job.
- Home — the promise in one line, plus the sentence that handles the single biggest fear a homeowner has: a general contractor who stays on the job from estimate to final walkthrough.
- Services — every trade broken out on its own rather than compressed into a paragraph. Kitchens, bathrooms, basements, whole-home renovations, additions, exteriors, fireplaces, paver patios and walkways.
- Service areas — named towns across three counties. Piscataway, Edison, New Brunswick, Woodbridge, Perth Amboy and more in Middlesex; Watchung, Green Brook, Warren and Bound Brook in Somerset; Scotch Plains in Union.
- Gallery — finished work, syncing automatically from the photos he already posts to Instagram, because in this trade the photographs are the sales pitch and the last thing a contractor needs is a second place to upload them.
- Reviews — the five-star reviews on the site, not only on Google.
- About — licensed and insured, with the HIC registration number where people can see it.
- FAQ — the questions that come up on every single estimate call, answered once.
- Contact — one clear path to an estimate.
Three local SEO decisions, and the reasoning
Named towns get their own coverage. A “general contractor near me” search resolves to a town. A site that says it serves Central New Jersey competes for nothing in particular. A site that names Green Brook competes for Green Brook.
The license number is visible, not buried. New Jersey HIC registration is a trust signal to a homeowner and an entity signal to a search engine. It earns its place near the top, not in eight-point type in the footer.
Name, address and phone match the Google Business Profile exactly. Same number, same town, same spelling. When a site and a profile disagree, the search engine trusts neither one.
The part most contractor sites skip
One obvious next action on every page. Not a contact page a visitor has to go find, but a request-an-estimate path visible wherever they happen to be standing when they decide.
Most of the sites we audit fail exactly here. They look fine, they load quickly, and they never once tell the visitor what to do next.
What we are measuring
The site is brand new, so there are no results yet and we are not going to invent any. Here is what gets reported at thirty and ninety days.
- Estimate requests, split by whether they arrived through the form or the phone
- Which service pages draw traffic, and whether that matches the jobs he actually wants more of
- Which towns appear in Search Console, and which named towns are not landing yet
- How deep people go into the gallery before they contact him
That last one is the interesting number. If visitors are looking at six or eight photos before they call, the gallery is the closer, and it deserves more of our attention than the copy does.
