Getting found in Dunellen, NJ.

Dunellen calls itself the Railroad Town, and the name is earned: the Raritan Valley Line stops here, trains still define the middle of the borough, and the whole place covers just 1.06 square miles. The 2020 census counted 7,637 residents, up 5.7 percent from 7,227 in 2010, which makes it one of the smallest towns on this list. It has 17.82 miles of roadway, a mayor and six-member council, and Dunellen Public Schools run pre-K through 12th grade across three schools.

It broke away from Piscataway Township and was made a borough by the Legislature on October 28, 1887. Two county and state roads cross it, Route 28, here called North Avenue, and County Route 529, called Washington Avenue. Most Raritan Valley Line trains from Dunellen end at Newark Penn Station, with a limited number of weekday trains continuing to New York Penn. No interstate or U.S. highway touches the borough, which is part of why it reads as a self-contained little town to the people who live in it. Its principal industry for decades was the Art Color factory, built in 1925, which produced as many as 10 million magazines a month, and a 1915 survey identified Lenape sites in the area.

Its neighbors are what a business here actually has to think about. Dunellen borders Middlesex and Piscataway in Middlesex County, Green Brook Township in Somerset County and Plainfield in Union County, so a plumber or painter based here can reach four municipalities in a few minutes and often does. The question for a website is not how big Dunellen is, but which of those towns the business wants to be found in.

As of October 2026 the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs lists about 35 active home improvement and electrical contractor licenses with a Dunellen mailing address. That is a small pool, and with fewer direct competitors the town name alone can be a winnable search. It is also a small pool of customers, which is why we build the Dunellen page together with pages for the neighbors a business really works in.

KMC Spark builds the site, the local pages and the request form for service businesses covering Dunellen and its neighbors, and we start with a free consultation. Bring the list of towns you cover and we will tell you honestly whether a new site or a tune-up comes first.

Questions, answered straight.

Is Dunellen big enough to have real search competition?

+

Less than Edison or Woodbridge, which can be an advantage: with fewer businesses chasing the Dunellen name, a well-built page and an accurate business profile have a real chance. We cannot promise a position.

Should a Dunellen business list Piscataway, Middlesex and Plainfield too?

+

If you take jobs there, yes. All three border Dunellen, along with Green Brook Township, and customers in each search with their own town’s name. We only list the areas you actually cover.

Do you work with businesses this small?

+

Yes. We work with businesses of every size, and a small, well-built site with accurate local details often serves a small town better than a large one that was not set up carefully.
