Springfield has no train station, and it did not need one to become a crossroads. Interstate 78, U.S. Route 22 and Route 24 all cross the township, with Route 124 and County Routes 509 Spur and 577 filling in the local roads. It is also the site of the Battle of Springfield on June 23, 1780, which the Continental Army fought to stop a British advance, and the Cannon Ball House museum, run by the Springfield Historical Society, keeps that history. The Rahway Valley Railroad once passed through, but the Springfield to Summit section closed in 1976 and no trains serve the township today.
The township has 17,178 residents (2020 census) on about 5.2 square miles and borders Millburn, Summit, Mountainside, Westfield, Cranford, Kenilworth and Union Township. Milltown and Branch Mills are older names for sections, and Baltusrol is better known as the golf club. Briant Park, which extends into Summit, and part of the 450-acre Lenape Park, shared with Cranford, Kenilworth, Union Township and Westfield, are among its green spaces. Baltusrol Golf Club is the township’s best-known address, and Jonathan Dayton High School is the local public high school. Downtown Springfield is a census-designated place of its own, and the Rahway River Parkway greenway runs through the township.
Springfield sits where several markets meet. Its northern edge meets Millburn in Essex County and Summit, and its southern edge meets Westfield and Cranford. A business here often serves customers across several of them, and people searching from each town use that town’s name rather than Springfield’s.
As of October 2026 the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs lists about 50 active home improvement and electrical contractor licenses with a Springfield mailing address. That is a small pool, and Springfield is easy to confuse with other towns of the same name, so a site that makes the county and the township clear can be the one a customer trusts. A site that lists the neighboring towns it covers gives each of those customers a reason to call.
KMC Spark builds the site, local pages and request form for service businesses covering Springfield and the towns around it, and it starts with a free consultation. Tell us which neighboring towns you work in, and we will say plainly what would help most.
