The Raritan Valley Line runs through Scotch Plains, but the station is in Fanwood. The two towns also share the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Regional School District, with eight schools and about 5,800 students in the 2023 to 2024 year, so a lot of residents think of them as one community. A local business has to be findable in both.
Scotch Plains itself covers 9.06 square miles with about 25,000 residents in the 2020 census, and it is made of named places: Alton, Goodmans, Graceland, Two Bridges and Willow Grove. U.S. Route 22 runs through the north, Route 28 briefly through the center, and I-78, the Garden State Parkway and I-287 are close by. On the north side are 1,945 acres of the Watchung Reservation. Other local fixtures include the Stage House Inn (built in 1737), the Osborn-Cannonball House Museum, Shackamaxon Country Club, Union Catholic Regional High School and the John H. Stamler Police Academy.
Scotch Plains is bordered by Berkeley Heights, Clark, Fanwood, Mountainside, Plainfield and Westfield in Union County, Edison and South Plainfield in Middlesex County, and Watchung in Somerset County. As of October 2026 the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs lists about 65 active home improvement and electrical contractor licenses with a Scotch Plains mailing address. That is a modest pool, and it leaves plenty of room for crews from Westfield, Plainfield and Edison who work here as well.
What that means in search is that a Scotch Plains business is rarely competing only against Scotch Plains. A homeowner in Willow Grove and one in Fanwood may search with different town names, and so may a customer near the Westfield or Plainfield line. We write pages that state plainly which of these places you cover, so each search has a page to match, and we leave out any town the business does not serve. Because the township spans Route 22 in the north, the Watchung Reservation edge and the Fanwood border in the south, a customer might describe their location by any of those, so a page that works through them keeps the details specific instead of vague. The same goes for the Plainfield and Westfield edges of the township.
KMC Spark builds the site, local pages and request form for service businesses covering Scotch Plains and its neighbors, starting with a free consultation. Bring the towns you actually work in and we will tell you honestly where to begin.
