Google Business Profile Checklist for NJ Service Businesses

To optimize a Google Business Profile for a NJ service business, claim and verify it, choose the most specific primary category, set the towns or counties you serve instead of showing a street address if customers do not visit you, and keep your name, phone and website identical everywhere they appear. Then add real photos, list your services and reply to every review.

The checklist

  1. Claim and verify the profile. Until it is verified you cannot control what it shows.
  2. Business name. Use your real business name only. Google’s guidelines say the name should reflect your real-world name, and that including unnecessary information in it can result in suspension.
  3. Primary category. Pick the most specific one that fits your main work, then add secondary categories for other services you actually offer.
  4. Service area. If you travel to customers, list the towns or counties you serve and hide the street address, which is what Google’s guidelines tell service-area businesses to do. We set ours to the three counties we cover.
  5. Phone and website. Use one phone number and the same website address everywhere. Keep them identical on your site and in directories.
  6. Hours. Set regular hours and update holiday hours.
  7. Services. List each service with a short plain description.
  8. Photos. Add real photos of your work, your team and your vehicles. Avoid stock photos.
  9. Reviews. Ask every happy customer and reply to every review. See our guide on getting more Google reviews.
  10. Posts and updates. Share recent jobs and offers on a steady schedule.

Why consistency matters

Keeping the name, phone and address identical on your profile, your website and the directories makes it easier for customers and search engines to recognize them as one business. KMC Spark LLC uses one canonical phone number and one description of the business wherever it is listed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hide my address on Google Business Profile?

Yes, if customers do not visit your location. Google’s guidelines say a service-area business should hide its address and list the places it serves.

How many categories should I choose?

One primary category that fits your main work, plus secondary ones only for services you really offer.

Why was my profile suspended?

Google’s guidelines say that including unnecessary information in the business name, such as taglines, hours, phone numbers or location details, is not permitted and can result in suspension. They also point to a separate policy on prohibited and restricted content. Check your profile against both, then follow Google’s reinstatement steps.

Does my website matter for my profile?

Yes. Your profile links to it, so keep the business name, phone and details the same on both.
